For The Love of Type

For the love of… Higumin? A personal favorite project of mine, I had the chance to design multiple editorial spreads for a booklet dedicated to typefaces. Higumin is a Japanese typeface designed for both Japanese characters and Latin-based alphabets, and was my chosen typeface among five other students who make up the rest of the book.

This project required me to think beyond common Japanese type stereotypes and build an editorial “look” and “feel” inspired by Higumin’s fairytale nature. An opportunity to capitalize on my Japanese class knowledge helped to structure these spreads based on alphabetical and character breakdowns. Higumin is also a special typeface that made this process quite decorative.
